Tamara Simmons is a Colorado artist who was born in Frankfurt, Germany. At an early age, she already possessed a passion for painting and drawing, which was nurtured by her mother's and grandmother's encouragement. Thanks to her grandmother, she also gained a special fondness for the mountains when they vacationed throughout southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
In the 1960s Tamara immigrated with her family to the United States, where they settled in Maryland. During her teens she regularly attended classes at the Corcoran School of Fine Art in Washington, D.C. and graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.A. in Fine Art. Thereafter, for more than 20 years, Tamara put her paints and brushes aside and was employed in the private sector–primarily in research, writing and management consulting.
Drawn by the beauty of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Tamara and her husband relocated to Fort Collins in the 1990s and she once again began oil painting in earnest. She has since developed a classical, old-world style, deriving her inspiration from the beauty that surrounds us--be it a simple still-life arrangement or the grandeur of our landscape. In her still-life paintings, Tamara seeks to flush out the intricate play between shadow and light, which is what particularly catches the attention of her collectors.
Among numerous shows, Tamara has participated in the Annual Colorado Governor's Invitational Art Show since 2006. Moreover, beginning in 2004 she has taken part in the annual Estes Park, Colorado plein air paint-out event, which hosts a select group of national and international artists. Additionally, since 2000 her paintings have been included in the Live Richard Schmid Fine Art Auction held annually in Rist Canyon, Colorado.
A member of Oil Painters of America, Tamara's paintings have received corporate, regional and national awards, and are held in private collections worldwide. Tamara's paintings can be found in a number of Colorado galleries.
